My entire family loves this classic Salisbury steak recipe but sometimes I like to use ground turkey in place of beef patties for a slightly lighter meal.

I love this version because it makes plenty of gravy, which is amazing spooned over the “hamburger steak” and sticks nicely to a side of potatoes or noodles. This is a great recipe to make when you’re in a hurry – it can be ready in under half an hour.

Quick and Easy Turkey Salisbury Steak Recipe (3)

Step One

Using your hands, combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, water, and eggs in a large mixing bowl. Divide the ground meat mixture into 6 equal portions and press each into a 2-inch-thick patty.
Note: ground turkey is a bit “mushier” than lean ground beef. The patties will be somewhat sticky and not as neat as hamburger patties.

Step Two

Heat olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Place the patties in the pan and brown both sides (about 3 -4 minutes per side.) Make sure that they get a nice brown on them, or it will be more difficult to remove them from the pan – the inside of the patty will still be raw at this point. Once browned, remove patties from the pan and set them aside to keep warm.

Step 3

Add water, ketchup, Worchestershire sauce, soup, and pepper to the hot skillet and whisk to combine.

Bring to a boil and return the patties to the large skillet.

Reduce heat to medium low heat, cover, and allow to simmer until the brown sauce mixture for 10 minutes.

Remove the lid and return the gravy to a boil for a minute or two – until the liquid has reduced a bit and the patties have an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Serve the thick oval patties covered in French onion gravy and your choice of side dishes.

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. This recipe reheats well and tastes great the next day.
